Preparation

It takes about a year to prepare and complete a Tai Ping Qing Jiao. Usually, a "jiao construction committee" or "jiao affairs committee" needs to be organized one year before the ceremony to be responsible for coordinating all matters from the preparation to the holding of the ceremony.

The preparation work includes bidding for various matters, such as nam pho groups, paper offerings, construction of ceremonial sheds and theatre sheds, installation of electric lights, recruitment of theatre troupes and hosting of banquets. At the same time, a license must be applied for from the relevant government departments. Killing is prohibited during the ceremonial period, and the committee arranges for notices to be posted in the ceremonial communities. Each village also keeps a "ceremonial sacrifice book" or "regular ceremonial merit book", abbreviated as "ceremonial book", which is a record of ceremonial ceremonies passed down from generation to generation, and records in detail the details of the ceremonial activities and rituals and the items required, the couplets of each shed factory, the roles, responsibilities and number of people of each unit, and even various contracts.
